Flugo Zander Beehive — 10 Frames Zander / up to 12 Frames DNM
The Flugo Zander Beehive is designed for modern beekeeping and offers maximum flexibility. The hive can be used with 10 Zander frames (cold configuration) or up to 12 DNM frames (warm configuration), allowing beekeepers to choose their preferred system and working method.
Made from durable polyurethane, the beehive provides excellent thermal insulation, lightweight handling, and long service life. The monolithic construction improves durability and simplifies hive management throughout the beekeeping season.
The Zander system is widely used in Germany and across Europe. Flugo Zander beehives are compatible with Langstroth bottom boards, covers, and feeders, allowing flexible hive configuration and easy expansion.
Technical Specifications:
- System: Zander / DNM
- Capacity: 10 Zander frames or up to 12 DNM frames
- Configuration: Cold and warm configuration
- Material: Polyurethane
- Construction: One-piece monolithic body
- Use: Complete beehive system
- Compatibility: Langstroth bottom boards, covers, and feeders
Frame Configuration Variability:
Cold Configuration:
- 10 Zander frames
- Option to use 1 divider
- 2 nucs with 5 + 5 frames
Warm Configuration:
- Up to 12 DNM frames
- Option to use up to 3 dividers
- 4 nucs with 3 frames each
- Or 1 divider with 6 + 6 frames
This frame variability allows the hive to be used both for production colonies and for creating nucs.

Usage Recommendations
Flexible Configuration:
The hive can be used with Zander frames or DNM frames depending on beekeeping preference and hive configuration.
Creating Nucs:
Divider options allow the hive to be used for creating nucs and managing colony splits during the season.
Colony Expansion:
Suitable for brood chambers, honey supers, colony expansion, and nuc production.
All-Season Use:
Polyurethane construction helps maintain stable hive conditions throughout the year.
Key Advantages of Flugo Hives

- Faster Spring Development: Excellent insulation supports colony growth
- Reduced Winter Food Consumption: Stable temperatures reduce food consumption
- Exceptional Thermal Insulation: Polyurethane walls provide excellent insulation
- Seamless Construction: Made from one piece without joints
- Easy Maintenance: Smooth surfaces simplify cleaning
- Optimal Year-Round Conditions: Stable temperatures in all seasons
- Pest Resistance: Resistant to rodents and insects
- Durability and Strength: Resistant to weather conditions
- Climate Adaptability: Suitable for various climates
Painting Instructions
Polyurethane is not UV-resistant. Apply a UV-protective coating after 1–2 years of sun exposure. Lightly sand the surface before application to ensure proper adhesion. A properly applied coating can protect the hive for up to 10 years without repainting.
Potential Disadvantages
Unpainted hive parts may have a shorter lifespan and may peel over time. Small bubbles or imperfections do not affect functionality and are not considered defects.
